Sensible Household Preparedness Checklist

If you're new to prepping, this is probably the best place to start.

The Sensible Household Preparedness Checklist covers the basic food, water, lighting, power, warmth, cooking, hygiene and household supplies that can make a real difference during an ordinary disruption.

It focuses on affordable food and equipment that you can use in everyday life, rather than specialist survival products that sit forgotten in a cupboard.

Once you've covered the basics, the guide also includes a Next Phase for gradually increasing how long your household could manage if normal services were disrupted.

Best for: Anyone starting their preparedness journey or wanting to find gaps in what they already have.

One Page Household Preparedness Checklist

Sometimes you don't need a long guide. You just want something you can print out and work through.

This one-page checklist condenses the most important household preparations into a simple, easy-to-follow format.

It covers water, food, lighting, power, warmth, cooking, medical supplies, hygiene, household information, vehicles and pets.

It's also a useful guide to give to friends or family members who want to become better prepared without overwhelming them with too much information.

Best for: A quick household check, printing out, or helping someone completely new to prepping get started.

Preparing in a Small House or Flat

You don't need a garage, spare bedroom, loft or enormous pantry to be prepared.

This guide is specifically designed for people living in flats, apartments and smaller homes where storage space is limited and everything you store needs to earn the space it takes up.

It looks at practical ways to store food, water and emergency equipment without turning your home into a warehouse.

It also covers some of the problems that can affect flats in particular, including communal doors, lifts, water pumps, power cuts, fire safety, emergency heating, safe cooking and leaving the building quickly if necessary.

You'll also find ideas for using under-bed storage, wardrobes, cupboards and furniture more effectively while keeping escape routes and living areas clear.

Best for: Flats, apartments, rented homes and anyone who thinks they don't have enough room to prepare properly.

30-Day Emergency Meal Plan

Buying emergency food is relatively easy. Working out how you're actually going to turn that food into breakfast, lunch and dinner every day is much harder.

The 30-Day Emergency Meal Plan gives you a full month of realistic meals using mainly affordable, shelf-stable foods that are readily available from UK supermarkets.

The example plan is designed around two adults and two school-age children, with quantities included so you can use it as a proper buying guide and then adjust it for your own household.

It deliberately includes familiar foods that children are actually likely to eat, including beans and sausages, tinned spaghetti, cereal, crackers, tinned fruit and rice pudding.

There's also a complete shopping list, advice on building your food supply cheaply, and a dedicated section covering meals that can be eaten without cooking if the power is off.

You don't need expensive specialist survival food either. Aldi and Lidl are often among the cheapest places to start building this kind of emergency food supply, although it's always worth comparing prices.

Best for: Families who want to build a serious emergency food supply without wasting money on food nobody wants to eat.

UK Foundation Amateur Radio Licence Study Checklist

Amateur radio can give you another way of communicating when mobile phones and internet services aren't available, but in the UK you need the appropriate licence before transmitting on amateur radio frequencies.

This checklist is designed for anyone studying for the UK Foundation Amateur Radio Licence.

It breaks the Foundation syllabus down into the areas you need to understand before taking the exam, including licensing conditions, basic electronics, transmitters and receivers, antennas, propagation, electromagnetic compatibility, operating procedures and safety.

It's not intended to replace a proper training course. Instead, it gives you a structured checklist you can work through while studying and makes it much easier to spot subjects that need more revision.

Best for: Anyone studying for the UK Foundation amateur radio examination or considering getting their first amateur radio licence.

More Free Guides Are Coming

This is only the beginning. I'll continue adding new downloads covering food storage, water, communications, power cuts, household emergencies, evacuation and other areas of sensible UK preparedness.

The aim is to build a useful library that you can come back to whenever you need it, rather than just downloading one checklist and forgetting about it.

All of these downloads are free for members of the Be Prepared UK Community.
